Please join the Santa Fe Fireshed Coalition for a virtual screening and panel discussion of The West is Burning on September 16th from 6:30pm-8:30pm on the Santa Fe Fireshed's Facebook live. Panel discussion will feature local experts Dennis Carril, Alan Hook, Laura Paskus, Michael Martinez, and Matt Hurteau and will help to situate the film within the Fireshed landscape.

THE WEST IS BURNING raises awareness about the conditions of forests in the western U.S. Told through a full-feature documentary, the film examines the history of forest management and litigation that led to the current conditions which are causing catastrophic fire nearly year-round. The film explores the urgent need to act now, and the potential to generate positive change in our forests, watersheds, and communities, both rural and urban.

The GSFFC is a coalition of public and private organizations. The GSFFC is not a subdivision of the State of New Mexico, as defined in the state’s Open Meetings Act, §§ 10-15-1 to 10-15-4 NMSA 1978. Although federal agencies participate in the GSFFC, the Coalition is not a federal advisory board and was not created by a federal agency, as defined by the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA), 5.U.S.C. app. 2, §§ 1 to 16 (2012). The GSFFC operates informally to support its partners, and is not incorporated as a non-profit, 501(C)(3), partnership, or other legal status.
