Volunteers Wanted
The Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) and Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) invite you to show one of our popular trails a little love by volunteering for a trails workday on Sunday, June 9.
The June 9 workday will focus on the Perimeter Trail (Forest Trail 290) between Water Canyon and Canon de Valle Trails along NM Highway 501 in Los Alamos. Volunteer crews will dig, rake and cut to improve drainage and clear the trail corridor of overhanging vegetation. Forest Service staff will be on hand to provide instruction and make sure everyone stays safe.
If you would like to participate, you must pre-register online on the PEEC website athttps://peecnature.org/events/details/?id=29160. Volunteers will meet at the Los Alamos Nature Center (2600 Canyon Road) at 9:00 a.m. and carpool to the trailhead. Work on the trail is expected to wrap up by 2:00 p.m.
Volunteers should wear long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, sturdy boots and a hat. Bring water, snacks, lunch and work gloves. The Forest Service will provide hard hats and trail maintenance tools, but participants are welcome to bring their own loppers and hand saws.
Volunteering on a national forest is a rewarding way to give back to your community, learn about conservation and improve public lands.
